Thanks! That's the first one I've seen so far where the shopping center is closing in favor of the mall; usually they've been closing the mall location if they're nearby.
DeleteI remember a few years ago, that GameStop closed their Lincoln Village shopping center store in Chicago. They kept their Lincolnwood Town Center mall store up in Lincolnwood, instead of their store at Lincoln Village. Surprisingly, the store at Lincolnwood Town Center has remained open as of December 2020 and hasn't closed. Not sure if that store will close, in the future? So I think there have been a few rare cases, where a mall GameStop was kept instead of a strip shopping center store.

ReplyDeleteThe ones late last year started at 10-30% off then increased over the two months; this time they're starting with 5-50% off, now that they know what does and doesn't sell (for example t-shirts are marked down more than new Switch games).

That location's relatively new, so I can't find much info on it at all yet (open or closed); I'll keep looking though. Their is a Bronx store closing that I just added, at 1605 Westchester Ave.

DeleteI originally saw it during a Facebook search; they referred to it as the Morrison & Soundview store (it's on Westchester & Morrison, at the Soundview train station). They have a pic of a receipt with a "final sale/ no refunds" stamp; it's store #5971.

DeleteMontville, CT store is closing. Was told by the ASL from that store who is now working in Lisbon. Only info I have. She said it was the least profitable store in the district, and that Putnam (!) was the #2 store out of 200+ (I imagine that was regional?).
ReplyDeleteIt might be; when I worked there years ago the regions weren't that big, but they've laid off a lot of people at the district & regional levels, so they're most likely much bigger now.

Anything on the store in Lititz, PA in the Shoppes at Kissel Village? It appears to be closed but I never heard anything about it.
ReplyDeleteAccording to a Facebook search it closed at the end of February; there were no clearance sales though, so the product was just redistributed to other stores. Apparently reserves were transferred to the Fruitville Pike store in Lancaster, which would be the next closest store.

ReplyDeleteI've seen a few unconfirmed reports online of PA stores slowly reopening for curbside only; it's possible they agreed to only reopen certain stores (they could claim Matamoras is a more remote area). It's still listed as closed on the store locator, but that takes a while to be updated; there are still quite a few stores that closed at the end of January on there.

ReplyDeleteIt's listed as open from noon to 8 every day on the store locator, which would usually mean they're doing pickup at the door there; if it's closed you'll have to call or email Gamestop to get your money transferred to an online order or refunded. This website's not affiliated with the company in any way though, so I'm not 100% sure.

DeleteAccording to google one of the Perrysburg, OH locations closed, Holland OH, and Napoleon,OH also showing as permanently closed.
ReplyDeleteRight now Holland and Perrysburg (listed on the store locator as Rossford) are still listed on their website; it looks like the store in Napoleon closed in 2014 though, with the next closest location being in Wauseon.

I don't see them doing a round of closing sales until the majority of stores are open again, but there will be stores where the leases run out in the meantime, so they'll probably just never reopen again and the product will go to other stores.

ReplyDeleteThey're both still on the store locator; neither are open for curbside, but none of the Bergen, Hudson, or Rockland County stores are (it's one of the hardest hit areas, being right across from NYC). There are only 25 locations in NJ doing curbside at all, mostly in south Jersey or closer to PA.

Looks like the 2861 N Milwaukee Ave location in Chicago has closed. No signage in the windows and the store name has been removed from the facade. Don't see it on the store locator either. It's right around the corner from my house.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Pacific Place (mall) location in Seattle, WA has closed. It has been removed from GameStop's official website as well as Pacific Place's directory. I've attempted calling but no one answers... I haven't been there in person to confirm but it definitely seems like they are now permanently closed.
